“Suck It!” Kathy Griffin is known for her trademark wit and sassy attitude. People who have wondered if Griffin has always been this way can find out in her memoir Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin (by the way, the answer is a resounding YES!)

Griffin details her early life, and is painfully honest when it comes to even the harshest events in her life. But, as Griffin has learned firsthand, the hard stuff teaches you, and if Griffin’s case is any indicator, helps you shine brighter than the other stars.

Through filming movies, a marriage, various stand up routines, television deals and everything in between (usually with mom Maggie by her side), Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin is a funny, honest piece of life as Kathy Griffin.

I really like Kathy Griffin, especially after reading this book. I was unaware of so many of the things that had happened to her, including the eating disorders and abuse she suffered–it’s hard to believe someone I see as so strong would face such issues, but the important thing to remember is that these experiences helped shape her.

I purchased this at a book signing event, signed by Kathy herself. She also signed my Barnes and Noble Nook ereader. Overall, it was a fun read and it was really great to meet the author before reading the book–if anything it created even more excitement.

I look forward to any other future author events, as well as any other book Ms. Griffin may write. I think know if I had the chance to see Kathy Griffin again, in any capacity, I would. I also highly recommend it.

Occasionally, I get clued into some awesome info about upcoming books (like the Rachel Vincent book tour appearance news a while back).

Well, now I have some information about a new sequel to a really cool book that came out in May–Claire de Lune. Author Christine Johnson is having a bit of a contest–really exciting news about the whole thing– to drum up some buzz for the new book–and get this, the winner of the contest will get the name of the book first! Can you imagine how cool that would be–to have exclusive information to pass along to your readers?

Claire de Lune sounds really cool–it’s been on my wishlist for a couple of months–since I’d heard about it. If you want to read about it, click on over to Christine’s website for details. You can also follow Christine on Twitter.

Pure Imagination is hosting a weekday Readathon.. And I’m participating. I have a lot of updates for ya’ll really soon, some really cool things, but for now, here’s the list of books I’ll be reading (or trying to finish) by Wednesday.

Offiial Book Club Selection by Kathy Griffin
Living with the Dead by Kelley Armstrong
Lost: Endangered Species by Cathy Harper
Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick

UPDATE on 7/16 : I was able to read Official Book Club Selection and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Not bad, considering I spent one day driving around and going to Disneyland, and the other driving around and taking Grandmama to the hospital. Yay for a slightly lower Mt. TBR. What have you read lately?

Welcome to this, the very first IPA (In Person Announcement)…
